The tour begins in Esterillos Oeste walking along the beach. The first goal is the Punta Mala sign, which indicates that you have reached the Natural Reserve, and the second goal is Punta Judas, a massive prominent volcanic rock formation that goes hundreds of meters out to sea.
You will enjoy a scenic tour discovering ancient fossil beds and rock formations that run for kilometers while learning about the hidden geological, natural and anthropological history of the area. Before starting the walk back, you will take a break to watch the sunset and recharge. Lightweight headlamps are distributed to experience the forest edge and beach coming to life as different nocturnal species awaken as night falls.
During the walk, you will be exploring up to 4.5 KM each way (for a total of 9 KM) at an easy pace to spot wildlife. The intensity depends on the capacity of the participants and comfortable shoes are recommended.
This is a great way to start a day at the beach! I will meet you at 5:00 AM at the public parking lot end of La Sirena Road. We will enjoy the sunrise while walking on the beach towards Punta Mala as the forest awakens, insects, mammals, birds, plants following their amazing lifecycles invite you to come to enjoy this transition time from dusk to morning time. We will be making stops on the way to enjoy landscapes and wildlife sightings with accounts of their natural history. I’ll also be sharing the ancient history of the formation of these land as well as general information of Esterillos Oeste.We will be reaching the Punta Mala Wildlife Reserve and explore further into it. We will be taking a short break on the Reserve’s beach before we start walking back to Esterillos Oeste.We will be back before 8 am, the perfect time for breakfast!
A two-hour walk toward either El Estero (during turtle nesting season) or towards Punta Mala.
